Does dairy free mean egg free? I’m looking for a wheat free, dairy free cookbook for my mom, but her allergy is just to dairy, not eggs. However, eggs are sometimes lumped in with dairy . . . Thanks.
No Eggs are NOT dairy. Where do they come from? A Chicken or other animals, but never a cow. I think people get confused b/c of the USDA food pyramid and the stores display them near or with dairy items! However, eggs are in the top 8 allergens. So, just pay attention to how you feel within 4 days of eating them or simply get a good food allergy test with a Naturopathic.org doctor. In California go to http://www.CalND.org to find a licenced Naturopathic Doctor. BTW, you may want to try Duck eggs, they are a little richer and delicious.
It would be a nice addition to the site for people waiting on their cookbook to be able to have a list of “pantry basics” to hit the ground running when the book arrives :).
I suspect there will be a bit of running around once the book arrives, and I just can’t wait, as I have been really frustrated since my diagnosis (wheat, milk, and shrimp allergy – and that was only what was tested – I suspect there are other things too that may not have been tested) and I want to get my life back, now that I know how much of my medical issues may be resolved by just not eating the wrong things. I am having good days and bad days making mistakes by accidentally experimenting with things I shouldn’t have, or even assuming some of the things I relied on for day to day (including supplements) and can’t wait to get the basics down to relearn how to cook the way I want to. Bland and boring is all I’m left with.
Big thumbs up for this book. I am so glad I found it. I have found plenty on wheat OR dairy free, but nothing outside this site that puts them both together. I am so grateful to you for this!
Hi Lauren –
Just stumbled onto your blog a couple days ago and have found some very helpful information. I am a wheat, gluten, dairy, refined sugar and yeast free eater. From what I gather you have many wheat, gluten, and dairy free recipes and some sugar free recipes. What about yeast free?? I wanted to check with you before I purchase your cookbook because most recipes I find in many “clean” cookbooks are free of everything but yeast which I’m highly sensitive to.
Many thanks……I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
Heather Zimmerman
No my cookbook does not use yeast except for one recipe out of 163. 🙂
